La Jolla boasts countless restaurants serving award-winning cuisine; however, the indelible flavors of dishes served at the The Marine Room are some of the most memorable I’ve been privileged to enjoy! This elegant restaurant, located adjacent to the acclaimed La Jolla Beach & Tennis Club at the water’s edge on La Jolla Shores, continually turns out cuisine that leaves my palate singing long after the meal is complete. Executive Chef Bernard Guillas and Chef de Cuisine Ron Oliver have perfected the culinary art of creating sensational meals by combining harmonious flavors with the freshest ingredients available. And Maitre d’ Hotel Dimitrios Papadopoulos is passionately dedicated to ensuring that guests of this establishment will have the best dining experience possible on all levels. This outstanding restaurant was recently awarded the Gold Medallion Award for Best French Restaurant from the California Restaurant Association.
Just a few samples of their culinary magic include Country Meadow Rack of Lamb, subtly laced with fig, pistachio and oregano and served with a savory bread pudding, and a Cashew Jidori Chicken Breast which pairs the tangy flavors of kaffir lime and kumquats with an aged Gouda polenta.
Chef Guillas and Chef Oliver’s cookbook, Flying Pans-Two Chefs One World, is filled with anecdotes and inspiring menus from locations worldwide and is a must for the kitchen library of any “foodie”.
This romantic restaurant’s classic European decor is expressly beautiful yet subdued, because the eye is always drawn to the wall of windows framing picturesque views of La Jolla Shores. Rest assured, a visit to The Marine Room will ensure a wonderfully memorable evening highlighted by superb service and a meal laced with flavors that will linger on your mind long after the evening has passed. Visit the The Marine Room’s website for a schedule of events including cooking classes, a photo gallery and current dining menu as well as a recipe archive of some of their signature items.
